A Week After the Masters: A Journey of Golf, Family and Fashion

A Week After the Masters: A Journey of Golf, Family and Fashion

Published on Sunday, April 21, 2024, to re-live that magical week at the Masters.

Hey Bov babes, Michelle here, founder of Bov, fresh from attending the Wednesday Practice Round at the 2024 Masters. The Masters buzz? Yeah, it’s still going strong and you’ve been flooding my inbox with all sorts of questions about our experience at the Masters. Well, I’m here today to spill the "tees", hot tips and everything Masters!

Let's dive right into how we snagged our golden tickets, our epic road trip, outfits and how the ladies’ line at restrooms were unbelievably short (we need more gals in golf!).

What is The Masters Tournament?

The Masters is the first of four pro golf’s four major championships which kicks off in the first full week of April. It’s always at the same spot: the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia.

Securing the "Golden Ticket"

Want to witness the Masters live? The easiest and most common way is to play the ticket game by entering into the Augusta National ticket lottery. Here’s the lowdown:

  • Availability: Only a handful of Practice Rounds and Daily Tournament tickets are up for grabs.

  • Application Process: One application per household, from a real address but you can shoot your shot for any day.

  • Eligibility: Age 21+.

  • Practice Rounds Tickets: (Mon, Tue, and/or Wed) at US$100 per ticket, shipping not included.

  • Daily Tournament Tickets: (Thu, Fri, Sat and/or Sun) at US$140 per ticket, shipping not included.

  • Deadline and Selection: Keep an eye out for next year's timeline.

  • Notification: End of July, check your email to see if you hit the ticket jackpot.

The Itinerary: A Road Trip from Toronto to Augusta

Kicked off from Toronto to Detroit, crossing borders and kick starting our road trip. Cincinnati was where we grabbed our first bite and it set the bar high.

Lexington was next, we had to check out Keeneland’s races! First time for us and totally worth it. The drive there? Absolute zen.

Then came Nashville. First-timers here, but we dove right into the music scene. Caught the Black Pumas at the legendary Ryman, then hit the Honky Tonks hard with the family. Wrapped up with a nice dinner at Skull’s Rainbow Room, where a 77-year-young singer showed us how it’s done - again inspired by women!

Atlanta to Augusta was all about gearing up for the Masters. And the ride back? Aiken, SC to Buffalo, NY, and onto Toronto—just us and the open road, soaking in all the feels and memories.

The Masters Experience: Simply Unforgettable

Was it as good as what everybody says? ABSOLUTELY! We did our research prior to going to the Masters, and oh wow, the moment we drove in, we could already feel it. Not kidding you, every single car on the road was headed to the Masters.

Masters has a strict no phone policy, (digital cameras are allowed for practice rounds only, not tournament days), so we locked up our phones in our car. I really LOVE this idea since we are all consuming so much content and information from our phones every single second and it was such a great way to fully soak in the full experience.

We aimed for the main golf shop first, but the line was too long. So, here’s a tip straight from us to you: fuel up at the concessions first. Those pimento cheese and egg salad sandwiches are iconic for a reason. And pace yourself—there’s a lot of ground to cover.

Instead of waiting around forever at the main shop crowds, we hit one of the smaller stands to secure the must-haves: 2024 Masters hats, those essential chairs, and a tote for our goodies. Then we were off, walking the course and snapping pics at Founders Circle before the morning cutoff. They give you a QR code for easy photo downloads—super convenient.

We staked out a prime spot at hole 1 of the Par 3 Contest course to put down our chairs, then checked out the practice range (missed Tiger, though).

One thing about the Masters chairs etiquette is that you can put down your chair with your name on the back and you’re all set! Other patrons can sit and watch the game when you’re not there, and when you return, you can re-claim your seat by gently tapping on their shoulders and let them know this is your chair. How cool is this!

At hole 1 for the Par 3 Contest, we saw pros and their loved ones share the stage and interact with patrons. Witnessing golf legend Gary Player, at 88, compete with the same vigor as his younger counterparts was so inspiring. It’s moments like these that capture the essence of golf—a sport that unites players of all ages and backgrounds.

And guess what! We saw Lucas Glover’s hole-in-one at the 7th hole, our first time ever witnessing a hole-in-one (it’s supposed to bring a year of good luck)!

During the Par 3 Contest in the afternoon, we made a strategic return to the main golf shop, now with much shorter lines, and to snag all our merch. Hot tip: make sure you write down what you need to get/who you need to bring merch for. Because I'm telling you, once you walk into that store, you will forget everything and the list comes in super handy!

And one last observation—the women’s restroom lines were always short, a rare sight that underscores the need for more female presence in the sport. It’s a call for inclusivity that we’re passionate about.

We wrapped up our unforgettable day with a sweet tradition—the iconic peach ice cream sandwich. It’s a Masters must-try that we highly recommend!

Bov Green meets Masters Green: A Fashion Statement

The most important part of the Masters is being properly dressed for it! Naturally, we had to wear Bov!

I got so many compliments from employees at concession stands on my outfit! I wore our pistachio set to be on theme with the Masters and the jacket was the perfect call since we were at the course from the early morning when it's a little chilly.

My mom wore the new collection as well. She mixed and matched the aqua set with the black top. The overall colour scheme was so on brand and it made her stand out!
